Foodie Weekend

This ain't a good way to "celebrate" the end of my RT sessions hahaha! Haven't been enjoying food and drinks like that for a long time. Now my stomach still feels bloated lol.

Today Liyang and Selina jio go for Blic ice-cream. So we met there to enjoy some ice-cream again. The night before, we had Ben & Jerry's already haha. I got myself a Peanutella and Bailey's.

Then we went to this place called The Garden Slug at Telok Kurau, near East Coast. It's quite a nice place with a western food menu. The usual pasta, pizzas and other things you can find in a western food restaurant menu. Liyang ordered salmon pasta, Selina ordered carbonara, while I ordered shepherd's pie. We also got some Wasuga chicken wings. The wings were pretty normal, but the pasta's servings was so huge, we all were pretty stunned when the waiter served them to us. The pastas were pretty good. Liyang managed to finish his whole plate of pasta. Pretty nice ambience and nice food. Definitely worth going back again.

2nd September 2010, Thursday

As usual, Nic and I went down to Bedok Camp for our RT. It's the final session of Phase 1, so it's the IPPT for us. We left the office at around 5:20pm because Nic said he wanna go early and leave early lol. We reached there at 5:30pm and found that we were at least the 200th in line! Everyone super kiasu wanna finish and go off early. I got a 368. ZJ, Benedict, Derrick arrived much later and got 700+. I wanted to run with Derrick and Benedict cos at least can encourage each other to complete the 2.4km together. Each of us were released in batches according to our number tags. I decided to do the static stations first and wait for them to finish theirs. I chose to do the chin-up first. Holy shit! I sort of strained my back as I was doing my 6th chin-up cos I was using my whole body to jerk up. In the end I felt so much pain that I had to rest for a while before continuing on the other static stations. Luckily it didn't create much impact for the rest of the stations. I was doing my static stations with Liangwei and we went down to the stadium seats to wait for the rest. But after waiting for two batches who started off the 2.4km run, LW decided to try it out himself as he didn't wanna wait anymore. By the next batch, the rest had completed their static stations and joined me at the seats. I could see Liangwei started walking on the 4th or 5th round. I think it's Phase 2 for him.

So ZJ, Ben, Derr and I started on the next batch. We had Derr running in front of us for us to pace him. He indeed was pretty good at running. I completed the 1st round in 1:50mins. Then by 2nd it was 4:0x. 3rd was 6:00 exactly. By the 4th round they had started to overtake me a lot, as I was losing steam and started walking! I was thinking...."cham liao...Phase 2!?" Then Derr saw that I was lagging so much that he turned around and started to shout at me to run faster. Then I put in all my energy to try to keep up with them and then finished the 5th round too. I was almost dying when we hit the 5th round and Derr was saying "c'mon last round and you have 2 mins exactly! Follow my pace and you can pass liao!" By the last 200m, I was overtaking Ben and I encouraged him to chiong instead. Derr and I then did one last burst at the last 100m, but seems like Ben couldn't chiong anymore. Der and I both crossed the finish line at 12:36min. But Ben got a timing of 12:43! He was so sianz that he had failed by a mere 3s! I was also super grateful to Derr for encouraging me and pushing me, cos I would DEFINITELY have given up during the last round and would have thus failed my IPPT. No more RT woohoo! So in the end I treated them to dinner at the Bedok market. We also encouraged Ben to pass his IPPT on the 14th session of RT, which would be two Thursdays from the current session. We will ask him to treat us to dinner then lol.

4th September 2010, Saturday

Saw this article about free entry to art galleries all over Singapore on that very day. Decided to go take a look at some of them. Jioed the people I saw online at that time and only Joce was interested. Rabbi was chionging the Liar Game dramas that I passed to her lol. So Joce and I went to check out the art galleries at the MICA building just next to Clarke Quay. There was some art exhibition going around and there was some catered food. Joce and I almost wanted to mingle into the crowd and eat some of the food, which looked so enticing lol. There was also free wine there. Wait a min! We're there to see the art galleries, not the food! So there were plenty of art pieces all around the place. I've gained level in Art Appreciation once again!
We then went over to Clarke Quay to check out the floats which some of the workers are preparing for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. There were the 十二生肖 all along Clarke Quay, on the Central side of the river. They look damn ugly, except for the Rooster ahahha! Serious! The rest looked so shitty. Only the floats featuring the 四大名著 were nice.
So we then took the train and Joce went on to the Chunkfest, which I had intro-ed her to check out. I went to meet up with Liyang, Selina, Zhangjing and Li Teng at Australian Outback at Millenia Walk. First time trying out this restaurant. We ordered mushrooms, some buffalo wings which weren't hot and spicy at all, fried onions and steak. Eat until wanna puke lol. ZJ ate medium rare steak. It looked so raw we could hardly bear to see ZJ sink his teeth into the meat.
The bread that looked like a potato that looked like a bread.
Juicy mushrooms yum yum! Buffalo Wings, not spicy at allLooking at this big slab of succulent steak makes my mouth water again argh!

After the meal, we went to check out the Chunkfest held at The Promontory @ Marina Bay. It is the 3rd such annual event organized by Ben & Jerry's, and they always hold it at different places. I went to all three lol, with different people each year. As usual, they invited some local bands to perform for the crowd. This year's venue is probably the best compared to previous years because there's a great scenery to enjoy, as we can see the MBS in the background, and all the lights and buildings in the area.
LT went off much earlier cos he was very tired, so the four of us went off to find a place to drink, cos it was ZJ's initial intention for this outing. LY suggested trying out the 1-Altitude bar at One Raffles Place as he's been there before. Aaron was also talking about this place earlier, and therefore it was a good chance for me to check out this quite recently established bar. It claims to be "the world's highest al fresco bar located 282m above the ground". We took the lift to the 62nd floor, which was the floor containing the restaurant Stellar. We then paid the cover charge of $15 which included one drink. Then we took a seperate lift which goes only to the rooftop.

There the view was breathtaking. We could see (almost) all the lights all over Singapore. Definitely a good place to chill out after a long week of work. You'll definitely feel like shouting "I'm the king of the world!" when you're there. The whole area was triangular in shape, with the 63rd floor being the counter area where you order your drinks and stuff, and if you climb up the stairs to the additional "floor" you'll be at the topmost area of the building and presumably the whole of Singapore. There weren't many seats around, and even lesser tables. We just found an area of glass, which was actually the top of the lift area of the 63rd floor, to place our bottles and glasses. There we walked around the place to enjoy the picturesque view of the whole city of Singapore. And luckily I had my DSLR and therefore was busy snapping away. It was pretty windy too and it's such a cool sensation being at that height, enjoying the cool breeze brushing against our faces.
We hung around for about 30mins or so, before we decided that that's about enough time to standing around, without any seats to rest our tired legs. We then checked out Citygolf on the 61st floor. It was an indoor pub area with several large projector screens for guests to play simulation golf. Very atas sia. Will go back again to try it out if have the chance.
The neverending triangular staircase.
Level 61: Citygolf
Awesome mini outing with the FDS guys. Quite a fruitful day of arts, steak, ice-cream and top of the world feeling. This is pure ecstasy!
